How It Works

Paver projects need three layers: compacted base (4-6 inches of crushed stone), bedding sand (1 inch of coarse sand), and the pavers themselves. Herringbone pattern is strongest for driveways because it interlocks and distributes loads. Running bond is easiest to install. Edge restraints are critical as without them, pavers will shift outward over time. Polymeric sand between joints prevents weed growth and ant hills. Compact the finished surface with a plate compactor.
