How It Works

Grout is a fluid concrete mix poured into CMU cells around rebar. It differs from mortar since grout is wetter and uses smaller aggregate. Standard 8-inch blocks have two cells, each about 0.028 cu ft. Fully grouted walls (every cell filled) are required in seismic zones and for structural walls. Partially grouted walls fill only cells with rebar. For large jobs, pump-delivered grout is faster than bag-mixing. Grout should reach 2,000+ psi compressive strength. Consolidate by rodding or vibrating.
