How It Works

Foundation waterproofing has three levels: damp-proofing (asphalt coating, minimum code requirement), waterproofing (rubber or polymer membrane, blocks water under pressure), and drainage (manages water before it reaches the wall). Best practice uses all three: coating on the wall, membrane over it, drainage board outside, and a perimeter drain at the footing. Damp-proofing alone is inadequate for basements with living space. Always apply to clean, cured concrete or block walls.
